We closed out our summer with strong new relationships and with a small but mighty set of student advocates. We also encouraged a group of 10 th and 11 th grade students to play a larger part in the culture of their school. Together with Project GRAD staff and a muralist, these students took the lead on creating projects that infused more of a college-going environment at San Fernando High School (200’s building). The students did an incredible job of painting murals on the walls and the stairwells and hanging college pennants and graduation “mortarboards” along the hallways. We are excited to continue this project throughout the year in other buildings on campus.
