Scholars Receive One-on-one Help with their Personal Statements

Project GRAD recently partnered with the San Fernando High School Alumni Association and nearly 20 professionals and college graduates to provide one-on-one support to Scholars on their personal statements for college.  Personal statements are a critical component of college applications, and can sometimes be the most challenging, requiring several drafts before finishing.  Project GRAD high school seniors arrived in the early hours of the morning on Saturday, November 13th with their essays in hand, excited to receive feedback and edits.

Each student was paired with a volunteer reader for about an hour and many also chatted with the professionals about their college and career experiences.  About 130 Project GRAD Scholars applied to college this fall, submitting applications to almost all of the UC and CSU campuses and to private schools such as Stanford University, Woodbury University, and Cornell University.  Over 90% of Project GRAD Scholars are the first in their families to attend college.  Congratulations to all of our Scholars and thank you to our wonderful volunteers!
