Over 300 Scholars Complete Summer College Institutes
Project GRAD high school students got a real life college experience this summer as they spent four weeks taking a college course and college readiness workshops on a college campus. This year the Institutes were held at Los Angeles Valley College and Woodbury University (a big thank you to our partners!).
Students completed their personal statements for college, explored career options, and practiced SAT lessons, all with the guidance of current Project GRAD College Scholars who were in their shoes not too long ago. Many students also expressed having expanded their worldview and gained confidence in their public speaking skills through their sociology and speech courses.
The experience was also an opportunity for students to gain insight into college life while building relationships with their peers. As one student noted, “The Summer Institute changed the way we look at college and what we need to do to get in to college. I thought you could just get into college with a ‘c’ average. You have to do better.”
A final highlight of the Institutes was the Networking Luncheon with professionals from all industries. Thank you to all the professionals who met with our students and a special thank you to Univision Reporter Cecilia Bográn and Raytheon Engineer Jesus Perez who delivered inspiring remarks.
