Job Opportunity: College Success Advisor

Project GRAD Los Angeles is an exemplary early college outreach program that prepares students to enter and succeed in college. We facilitate partnerships with local high schools and colleges to increase the number of students entering and succeeding in college. The College Success Advisor will create, coordinate and implement age-appropriate college awareness activities and programs at one of our high schools or local colleges. The Advisor will work with Project GRAD staff in meeting the mission, goals, and objectives of the organization.

Reports to: College Success Team Leader

Essential Functions:
• Manage a caseload of students to improve academic outcomes:
   o Meet each student weekly to elicit goals and coach problem-solving strategies
   o Gather and enter data regarding academic/personal progress (grades, test scores, etc.)
   o Build and strengthen relationships with students and their families
   o Provide one-on-one and small group academic planning and college counseling
• Shape and deliver social emotional learning curriculum after school in a small classroom setting
• Build and maintain strong relationships with school administrators, counselors, and teachers
• Coordinate efforts to improve the college-bound culture of our high schools: college awareness
workshops, campus field trips, parent workshops, and celebratory events
• Plan, recruit for, coordinate, and implement major Project GRAD events: Summer Institutes,
Scholarship Celebration, Partner Retreat, Parent Summit, and community awareness events
• Help create and implement innovative programming and outreach strategies
• Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
• Passionate about the work of Project GRAD – career goals in alignment with our mission
• Embody the qualities we hope to instill in our students: enthusiastic learner, embraces challenge,
strong work ethic, motivating, tenacious, empathetic, humble, and vulnerable
• Must be able to establish and maintain good working rapport with all Project GRAD
stakeholders: students, parents, school/college staff, partners, funders, and Project GRAD staff
• Able to effectively advise students and parents individually and in groups
• Works well as a part of a team; actively supports all team members
• Strong writing, oral communication, and presentation skills
• Knowledge of college access and success information
• Professional skills: organized, prompt, responsible, considerate, meets deadlines, etc. Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends
• Reliable transportation to commute between sites and local colleges
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
• Experience counseling youth and families preferred
• Master’s degree in counseling or related field preferred
