At a recent dedication ceremony, Haddon Elementary School honored longtime principal and dear friend of PGLA, Loraine (“Tangee”) Mason by renaming the school library after her. Ms. Mason was the principal at Haddon for twenty-one years. As principal, literacy was a point of emphasis and she worked tirelessly to ensure the library was abundantly resourced.
Since retiring in 2009, Ms. Mason has continued to be a vital part of the Haddon family as a volunteer and supporter. At the dedication ceremony, teachers, former students and cafeteria workers all recounted stories about her legendary generosity and can-do spirit. It is particularly appropriate that the larger, renovated school library is now named after such a passionate advocate for reading.
“My students call me Ms. Mason but my friends call me Tangee.”
From all of us here at Project GRAD Los Angeles (several of whom attended Haddon Elementary), congratulations to our dear friend, Tangee.
