Promoting College-going in the Community

Hundreds of students, parents, and volunteers participated in Project GRAD’s 14th Annual Walk for Success in the community where they learned about what it takes to prepare for college.  The event took place on Saturday, October 13th at San Fernando Middle School and included workshops on enrichment and scholarship opportunities, career choices, and help with completing the college applications including personal statements.  Many students and parents expressed learning something new in their sessions while having a fun time.  As always, the Walk for Success included a large community effort to promote the path to college for the youth, with several Project GRAD College Scholars, teachers, and principals volunteering their time.  The day concluded with a community resource fair, remarks by Councilmember Alarcon, and school performances. A special thank you to San Fernando Middle School for hosting the Walk for Success, and to all of the organizations and businesses who supported the event with in-kind donations, including our media partner LA 96.3FM.
